Six Reasons to Quitting Smoking Habit
Nobody who starts smoking right now can claim that he or she is not aware of the health effects of smoking. When you start smoking, you might not experience the health effects immediately, and they might come in the later stage of life, but you will feel the non-health effects almost immediately. Research has shown that those who smoke have a high chance of getting chronic diseases such as lung and oral cancer, stroke and heart diseases in the long term.
Unfortunately, many smokers are not willing to quit the habit despite being aware of the health risks associated with smoking. Many people know that they should stop smoking because it jeopardizes their health but below are other reasons why you must stop this deadly habit.
Save money – Smoking is expensive. The government is trying to discourage smoking by imposing high taxes which translate to high prices of cigarette packets. If you make continuous purchases, you will be broke after a short period. You will realize that you have lots of money to spend on important activities after quitting smoking.
Stop risking other people’s health – Cigarette smoke does not only affect you, but it spreads to other people around you. When they inhale the smoke, they will be at a risk of having health problems because the smoke has carcinogen which is the toxic compound in cigarettes. Vaping is a safe method of smoking because it does not have the harmful elements present in cigarettes.
Normalize your senses – Most smokers do not have properly functioning senses of smell and taste. The smoke interferes with your senses of smell which is closely related to taste, and they will not work properly if you do not quit smoking. Luckily, this can be reversed when you quit smoking and start using nicotine replacement therapy.
Prevent accelerated aging – It is no surprise that you might mistake a young person to be an old person if he or she smokes. It hurts the skin causing wrinkles, skin dry out and leathery skin. Studies show that smoking increases the aging process and smoker would appear older than their actual age.
Reduced frequency of catching a cold and coughs – It is quite obvious to have a cold or coughs occasionally, but for smokers, they have a high tendency of these attacks. Smokers easily get bacterial and viral infections because smoking weakens their immune system thus they become susceptible to colds and coughs. Within a short time after quitting smoking, your body regains its immunity strength and fights disease causing pathogens.
Stamina to exercise – Smokers cannot endure long periods of exercises because they easily run short of breath. Smoking hampers the functionality of lungs and heart which are crucial in keeping the body energized in an exercising session. In extreme cases, smokers may not have adequate strength to climb a couple of stairs. However, there is hope that when you quit, your body functioning becomes normal once again.
